Do you feel lost because you keep getting rejection after rejection in this current job market?
Like you don't know what you're doing wrong, and it makes you frustrated, angry and stressed out?
When I decided I wanted a change in my career, it was so damn difficult to get even an invitation for an interview.
I kept hearing "no" and it led me to a point where I was thinking the same as you are now.. What am I doing wrong?
I tried going back to school. I tried courses in the career I was pursuing. At one point, I was even begging in the cover letter to just give me a chance... It wasn't until I had a meltdown and was thinking about just settling, that I had to work my former job for the rest of my life. That I realised that there was no way that I couldn't do this.
Giving up wasn't an option and I started thinking about "what does it take for them to be interested?".
Today there's so much more information to find online, which wasn't available when I was going through this change. There was nothing and I had to figure it out all by myself, but I did. I kept going until I found the solution. I have way more to offer than just "not experienced".
Here's how I found out what I SHOULD tell them instead of what I was always telling them when I received all those no's:
- I analysed everything I did in my life and wrote it down.
- Helping my parents out on the market? What did I actually do that will help me when applying for this job?
- Working as a hotel receptionist? I needed these soft skills just to survive the day with all those different (some aggressive) guests.
And then this happened ↓
This was only the introduction to a career that’s definitely the right one for me.
After about a year I gotten to know the career coaching side of things and I did that with a lot of pleasure for years next to my recruitment work.
I have been so happy with this career change ever since and don’t regret a second of the decision I made. During that experience and everyday since I learned what works when you're applying (even if you have no experience in that field). Being on the other end of the table for more than 7 years also gave me the knowledge in what recruiters and hiring managers want to see. Not only in a resume, but also in a cover letter, in an interview and in the negotiations.
